David Gray's twelfth studio album is released via Laugh a Minute Records / AWAL Recordings. The album was produced by Ben de Vries and moves away from the electronic influences of 2019's Gold In A Brass Age. We hear soundscapes of atmospheric songs centered around multi-part vocals, with Gray now singing with a softer tone.

Recording for the album took place before the pandemic at Edwyn Collins' Helmsdale studio on the Sutherland coast, with De Vries and Gray tweaking the mix during the lockdown. Skellig takes its name from a formation of rugged rocky islands off the coast of Count Kerry, the westernmost point of Ireland.

Devastated by the Atlantic Ocean and seemingly uninhabitable, Skellig Michael became an unusual place of pilgrimage in 600 AD for a group of monks who believed that by leading such a merciful existence they would leave the distractions of the human world and ultimately be closer to God.
