Roger Waters' masterpiece "The Wall" is Pink Floyd's most successful album after 1973's legendary "The Dark Side Of The Moon". "The Wall" was originally released in November 1979 and topped the charts in the US, France, Germany, Sweden and Australia. "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2," Pink Floyd's first singles release in the U.K. since 1968, advanced to a number one hit and sold millions of copies worldwide within weeks.

Between 1980 and 1981, Pink Floyd staged The Wall album live 31 times on stages in the US, UK and Germany. It was one of the most spectacular stage shows ever, for which a wall over twelve metres high was built stone by stone at the edge of the stage during the performance. In 2010 and 2011, Roger Waters toured The Wall again with a new and critically acclaimed stage production.

A special feature of the recording sessions was the addition of pupils from London's Islington Green School, who recorded the now famous chorus ("We don't need no education...") to "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2" at Pink Floyd's own Britannia Row studio in London.

This advanced with the release of the first single to become the worldwide signature tune of the album, which was an instant huge success, no doubt helped by the groundbreaking imagery of the promotional film, including Gerald Scarfe's brilliantly staged marching hammers.
